19-0le!

So, the Superbowl, is of course over and here's a pic from the NY Times showing Eli and Strahan celebrating, wearing their brand spankin new "SB Champion Giants" shirts right after the game.

Obviously, they had to have these prepared before the game aka before the winning champion is known.
So what happens to all those "SB Champion Patriots" shirts?

Well, according to ktar.com,

Thousands of t-shirts were printed proclaiming the New England Patriots as Super Bowl champions before they were upset by the New York Giants on Sunday.
They are now headed to needy families in Nicaragua.

Anne Duffy is with the relief group, World Vision, which is in charge of distributing the shirts.
"To be able to see them dance and jump for joy that they are getting something as simple as a t-shirt is so joyful for us," Duffy said. "The children and their families who get these oftentimes have never had a new piece of clothing in their lives."

The t-shirts cannot be sold or distributed in the United States because the Giants beat the Patriots 17-14 in Super Bowl XLII.

So if anybody wants one of those, you're gonna have to steal them from these kids.

Superstitions.

So its definitely been a while since my last blog entry. Call it stupid, call it childish, call it laziness, but part of the reason why I didn't blog at all was because since I had last blogged, the Skins hadn't lost and we were on a playoff run.

Yes it's childish. Yes, its extrememly superstitious. But what crazy sports fans do YOU know that aren't a little superstitious?

Still Hurt.

I don't know how long it's gonna take to get over Sean Taylor not being with us anymore (then again I don't think its something that you really ever 'get over'). These past couple days, It's been more keeping yourself busy doing thing (like actual work) but thoughts of plays he made always creep into my head and it's hard to think those are the only plays that I'll be able to think about since no new ones will ever come again. He really could of been one of the greatest, and it seems impossible to think he wouldn't one day be inducted into the HOF.

Anyways, when I'm not trying to escape the despair and awfulness of thinking of how he is no longer with us, I'm doing what I think many other people are as well. Talking with people about him, reading stories of what actually happened that night, and praying for him and his family.

You should definitely check out Ben over at CurlyR and Hogs Haven for excellent breakdowns, wonderings, and criticisms of people who have been overly critical of Sean Taylor at the most inappropriate time.

RIP #21

So i spent most of yesterday pretty quiet and depressed trying to figure out jus what happened between sunday night and now.

I heard the news early monday morning like most did, that Sean Taylor got shot. To be honest with you, I just thought that it was just that.. he got shot, he'll go to the hospital, he probably will miss the season, but he'd be back.

As I was sitting at work, I started getting all these texts and emails and people asking me.. "did you hear?, did you hear?"

But it wasn't until I started looking for more updates on his condition did I realize how serious this actually could get. I started looking up what a femoral artery was, how badly it could affect you by being shot in it, and endlessly searching the web for any new information I could get.

As the day went on, it was literally a rollercoaster of feelings and emotions. I read he was in a coma, he hadn't regained consciousness, and the thoughts of having to prepare myself for the worst began to creep into my head. Later, I talked to my cousin who works for Easterns Automotive (the same company that has all the Skins stars in their commercials) and he had heard that Sean was doing better, that he was showing signs of responsiveness. I breathed a sigh of relief that it will be all aite.

No one ever wants to wake up the way many of us did on Tuesday morning. My girl woke me up in a hurry to let me know nothing other than "He died."

I can't say I don't know why this is affecting me so much. He was my favorite player on the defense of my favorite team. A team that I invest alot of myself in. A team that I follow, that I love, a team that I live for, with a passion unrivaled. I know that many other fans feel the way I do. When we talk about the team, we say "we" not "them. Fans are a part of the team. I never got to meet Sean, but there's a bond between player and fan that cannot be described nor replicated. I seriously feel like I lost a family member. It's hard to think that I'll never see #21 run out of that tunnel again. I'll never see any of his bone crushing hits again. I won't see him running down the field with his eyes as a crossheir locked on anyone with the ball. at 24, he has his whole life ahead of him.

What's even worse is Sean won't get to see any of those things anymore. And most important, he won't get to see his baby girl grow.

We miss you Sean....

(Heart)Breaking News.

UPDATE (1:13PM):

So the situation is alot more serious that many people (including myself) thought. Apparently, the femoral artery that got hit is causing him to lose alot of blood, and this is not only a career threatening blow, but much more importantly a life threatening situation.

Our prayers go to Sean Taylor, his family and friends. ..

ESPN: Redskins' Taylor shot and wounded at home

Fuck.

I was gonna talk about how this is just another reason that the Skins need to do something to start winning this year (we basically need to run the table to make playoffs), but this is much too serious to shrug off. Let's just hope he's ok.

Fight Night

There are.. some, ok alot, i mean ALOT of people predicting that Miguel Angel Cotto is going to make devastating if not quick work of Sugar Shane this weekend. Not erybody is hopping on the bandwagon, but I think it's kind of funny that eryone is saying that all these experts and fans are picking Sugar Shane, yet I could only find one article to say as much in agreement. And Michael Marley had to preface his article that his pick is for 'sentimental reasons' amongst others.

I don't normally agree with Marley on alot of his commentary (esp regarding MP fights), but it made me start to wonder.. Do I really think Shane is going to win this fight? or am i thinking so for sentimental reasons? I've counted against heart so many times this past year, and heart has come back with a hard right hook to my face every single time. Should I change up my pattern then?

Odds say Cotto is going to win, in about 10 rounds, from early stopapge. I think that's the popular consensus. Cotto last handed Zab Judah's ass back to him in June of this year, and Mosley hasn't really had a real tough fight against a quality opponent in a while (and he hasn't fought since March of this year either).

Cotto has the power, Mosley has the speed. But one thing that I haven't really seen anywhere is anyone talking about Shane's hitting power. He doesn't hit as hard as Cotto does, but he's also moving down to 147 for the fight. Will he end up losing power due to the weight loss or is he going to bring it down to the lower weight class for a previously non-mentioned advantage? (Jack Mosley certainly thinks so) A couple hard hits from Mosley could do some damage as Cotto isn't proven to have that strong of a chin, though it has improved since he fought Ricardo Torres.

I don't know if its clouded judgement, but I really think Sugar Shane is going to win this fight. I think there will be times when Cotto has a chance to finish the fight early, but I see Shane being determined enough (Floyd Mayweather in the future = determination) to go the distance and take this by unanimous decision.

-120? Sure.

If Cotto wins, at least it will make my NFL Sunday more interesting.

C'mon Ride the Train. N Ride It. CHOO CHOO.

Who was that lounging around Redskins Park this week talking to reporters, teaching people how to dance?

It was Choo-Choo. The latest character to come out of Clinton Portis' imagination. It's been a while since we last seen a Portis alter ego around these parts (Southeast Jerome, we havent forgotten you!)

This has pumped alot of people up and hopes its a sign that Redskins are making the playoffs this year. Hey, whatever we need to do to be successful, I'm all for it!

Nine For the Money!

Ok, so it's been a little more than 5 weeks now since I last did this.. but chalk it up to a slow friday at work, and me wanting to think that I'm gonna pick ALL winners THIS weekend. that's rite. ALL WINNERS.

Here we go:

WAS (-4) at NYJ:
I'm always going to think the Redskins are goin to win and this week is no different.

GB at KC (-2):
Hmm. Why? Is it because of the way GB won last weekend? Is it because KC has a decent defense? Is this even a rivalry or anything? Maybe a short week? All I know is Favre did his thing against Champ and Dre Bly last Monday. Koren Robinson also got a full 2 weeks on the team now?
Pick: GB, for surprising 7-1 record. got damn!

AZ at TB (-3.5):
Ok, so Jeff Garcia is Human after all, and Kurt Warner has a bionic arm. Tampa bounces back, they take this one at home.
Pick: TB

CAR at TEN(-4):
Oldest quarterback ever + best rushing defense = titans win. i dont even feel like typing anymore of this, that's how sure I am.
Pick: TEN

SF at ATL (-3):
Joey Harrington is back at QB. I've always been a fan of his, even though he really hasn't played well consistently his entire career. Both of these teams desperately need a win for morale purposes. So who wants it more?
Pick: SF, barely.

JAC at NO (-3.5):
Have all those commercials with the Green Day/U2 song got you believing this team has turned it around for this season? Yes? Not me. but they're still better than Quinn Gray.
Pick: NO

DEN at DET (-3):
Denver's been in close games pretty much every single game this season. I think this is the first one they won't be. Skins showed what happens when you effectively shut down the Lions passing game and I think Denver does the same.
Pick: DEN

CIN (-1.5) at BUF:
Team with Offense/No Defense vs. a Team with Defense/No Offense. When Buffalo has the ball, this is going to be a REALLY hard game to watch. I'm glad this one isn't nationally televised.
Pick: CIN

SD (-7.5) at MIN:
SD run defense is ok. But ok might not cut it against Adrian Peterson. Same with MIN, their defense is aite, but eryone is still waiting for LT to have that big breakout game this season. I'm going with experience, and experience covers.
Pick: SD

SEA at CLE (-1.5):
So can seattle fans blame this entire season on the refs too? i jus dont see them making any noise this year. including this weekend:
Pick: CLE, easily.

HOU at OAK (-3):
everyone in houston is hurt. i guess if the rockets are healthy the texans cant be. and even though oakland isnt that good, they're better than houston's second stringers.
Pick: OAK.

DAL (-3) at PHI:
If the Cowboys are SO good, and philly is playing like shit this year, how can this line only be 3? well they're playing in philly, for one. division game, 2. mcnabb? no.. mcnabb can't do it like he used to, and westbrook will have trouble again the dallas front 4.
Pick: DAL (boooooooooooo)

BAL at PIT (-10):
i really thought BAL was going to be tight this year, but injuries and whatever you wanna notch it up to hasn't really been kind to this team. Still their defense is nothing to look past, and they'll cover. they won't win, but they'll cover.
Pick: BAL

The BIG ONE: NE (-6.5) at IND:
when i first thought about what the line should be for this game, i said 5.5 NE. i was close..... This is such a hard game to forecast whats gonna happen cuz NE is REALLY good, but the colts arent exactly pushovers. I say NE wins, and they cover, btu this isn't going to be the last time they face each other. i think whoever loses this game, the better they do in the next one (the real super bowl). and while i think NE is on their way to the SB, i jus dont see them losing this one.
Pick: NE, they wont blow them out like theyve done ERYONE else this year, but they'll cover.

Lock: my lock is Denver. that's rite.

Is that You John Madden?

He did it again. Why anybody thinks its a GOOD idea to be on the cover of Madden is beyond me. Vince Young got hurt in last weekend's game, and is now officially listed as day to day. Thanks Madden and EA for potentially f*cking over Tennesee and the general viewing public.

So ok, Vince could bounce back from this and still have a great year, and the chances that someone in the NFL gets hurt are pretty high considering what they do, its still kinda weird that this happened. again. this year.

so lets rundown who else Madden has f*cked over since EA took him off the cover (and how come all those years he was on the cover nothing ever happend to him? Every week we still have to hear his obvious, thoughtless commentary) anyways, i digress:

Garrison Hearst (1999) - For real? i forgot that Garrison Hearst used to really be aite. And it started off so well too. Hearst was having a great year until the first game of the playoffs. when he broke his ankle. never to be heard about again really.

Barry Sanders (2000) - well, he didnt get hurt, but he never played football again.

Eddie George (2001) - from frenetic to fragile. way to take that superbowl appearance and turn it into a career of injuries and mediocrity.

Daunte Culpepper (2002) - almost broke his back. seriously injured it. and now he plays for the raiders. ouch.

Marshall Faulk (2003) - ankle injury took him out for over half the season. fans of faulk's nfltv commentary rejoice.

Michael Vick (2004) - the only way Mike Vick could have a worse season than this one when he got injured in the preseason and only played 5 games the entire year would be to run an illegal dog fighting community and the chance to wind up in jail. wait, was he on the cover of madden this year too?

Ray Lewis (2005) - he didnt get injured, but people really

Donovan McNabb (2006) - ankle, sports hernia, back, INT's, you name in. he got it that year. and they shouldnt have let jeff garcia go.

Shaun Alexander (2007) - went from NFL leader in TD's in one season to a fractured foot, and not even 1000 yds. Oh, and LT also broke the record within a year.

Vince Young (2008) - hurt his hamstring. Oh, and also the reason I lost on the Titans last weekend. Thanks Madden.

Even Stephen.

a little late.. but my LOCK did cover when the Pats beat Cincy.

They also pushed my record for last week to 7-7.

Also, this week's picks will be made live from the sports betting capitol of the world, Las Vegas.

if that doesn't increase my statistics, i dont know what will.

Leavin tonite for Boom City. (i actually dont think LV has ever been called that, but thats what ima call it). Holla!

soo. this weekend sucked.

So besides having to watch the 1:00 and most of the 4:00 games at work, the weekend for football pretty much blew.

ok, ok.. my lock pick still hasnt played yet, but it really wasnt that good of a weekend.

I ended up taking
CLE
TB
PIT
SF

so 2 wrong, 2 right. but my survivor pick.... yup, i guess i'll still make them, pick it as if the chargers had actually won this weekend, and see how i woulda ended up doin if i decided to go wit GB instead (my second choice this week).

so a little recap of what i said and what actually happened.

BAL (-4) @ CLE
- partly because last week i knew the cards would cover against the ravens, and they did. The Browns are playing at home against the old Browns. Granted the Ravens are NOTHING like the old Browns, but McNair's old, Ray Lewis is hurt, and Jamal Lewis is pissed that Baltimore let him go. They might not win, but they'll cover. Pick: BROWNS

excluding the fact that the browns actually win, i was spot on.

TB @ CAR (-3)
- Jeff Garcia looks like the 06 playoffs Jeff Garcia or the early 2000's regular season Jeff Garcia, even in Carolina, no TB cornerback is gonna give the Panthers the gift that DeAngelo Hall gave them last week. Pick: BUCS

The panthers did give the bucs a sour ass gift, losing cadillac williams for the season. sore losers.

CHI (-3) @ DET
- Kitna has alot of heart, but heart only takes you so far (Bernard Hopkins against Winky Wright doesnt count), and while Griese is a brand new starter this year, and the Lions offense looks good, i mean, they are still playing the Chicago Defense. Pick: BEARS

i really might have to start changing my 'heart and nothing else' theory.

STL @ DAL (-13)
- I hate the Cowboys. but no stephen jackson and the way the rams been playing, Dallas wins and covers at home. Pick; DALLAS

these are the times i hate when i'm right. f*** dallas.

GB (-1.5) @ MIN
- Dan Marino Who? Brett Favre is about to break Marino's touchdown record. But the Vikings are still division rivals, and they're playing in Minnesota. but its Kelly Holcomb, Green Bay shockingly moves to 4-0 and covers. Pick: GREEN BAY

could he challenge the golden arm as best qb ever? favre is good bro. he's still really good.

HOU (-3) @ ATL
- Whats up with former Hokie Falcons? Matt Schaub is gonna feel like he's got something to prove. and without their best corner for a quarter or two, and Andre Johnson coming back, yup, they shouldn't of let Schaub go. At least we're gonna get to see Leftwich in the game. Pick: HOUSTON

two weeks ago, i said that joey harrington wouldn't be able to handle the pressure with leftwich coming in. i've always been a fan of joey harrington, always believed in him. and when i stop, that's when he starts showing up. go figure.

DEN @ IND (-9.5)
- Am i the only one who thinks the broncos look suspect this year? apparently not, since the vegas is giving them 9.5. it's still not enough points, Indy's been in two close games since blowing out the saints, and theyre due for another. Pick: COLTS

they are still the defending champs. and denver still likes to suck.

OAK @ MIA (-4)
- OK, they're playing at home. and they havent won a game yet. and the raiders have blown two close games, and we're still nowhere closer to seeing JaMarcus Russel on the field yet. it doesnt matter tho. raiders don't just cover, they win. Pick: RAIDERS

its kinda funny since back in the day, playing NFL2K1 on the dreamcast, my personally drafted team had Daunte Culpepper running all over the league to a super bowl season. i finally got to see what my personally picked qb for raider nation would do in real life. only its 7 years later..

NYJ (-3.5) @ BUF
- Ok, so I hear that Thomas Jones just got his girl Megan Goode pregnant. That would almost be enough to make me pick the Bills alone, but JP Losman, i dont know you think you are. Pick: JETS

damn you thomas jones. losers dont deserve megan goode.

PHI (-3) @ NYG
- NY looked better in the second half last week than they have all season, call it a sign of things to come or call it a fluke. these are both two teams i really dont like, but PHI put up 56 last week, and even if it was against the lions, they're playing teh Giants defense this week. Even at the meadowlands, wouldn't suprise me to see the eagles hit at least 40. Pick: EAGLES

im mad that we really couldve ended the giants season last week realistically, and now at 2-2, they're right back in the thick of things.

PIT (-6) @ ARZ
- Man, seems like I've been pickin all the favorites, but there's a reason, they're the better bet with these lines. Steel Town's been playing out of its mind lately, and whoever is back there for the Cards, Leinart or Warner, is gonna feel like a third string this week. Pick: STEELERS

i really dont know what to say about this one. every week im like, i should take PIT, they'll cover, but i never do, and they always cover. this week, i actually took em, how's that for a slap to the face.

KC @ SD (-11.5)
- That's what you get for hiring Norv Turner. The Bolts need SOMETHING, and it might just be a game, at home, against a team that sucks. Congratulations SD, you've been granted both them things. just don't think you're making a statement by covering against KC, cuz well, you're not. Pick: CHARGERS

Norv Turner. you cant keep f***in me over like this.

SEA (-2) @ SF
- Don't let last week fool you. Shaun Alexander's playing hurt, and Frank Gore's gonna hit at least 110 against the seahawks. Pick: NINERS

yeah. so much for that.

Total (so far): 6-7
so now i need NE to win tonight to just break even in my picks for this week. shootout, here we come.

Four for the Money!

So I'ma get my Brandon Lang on. I know i'm late cuz its week 4, but thats why the title is what it is. Here are my expert NFL picks for this week. Holla @ me if you use 'em, i want 10% haha.

Sunday
BAL (-4) @ CLE
- partly because last week i knew the cards would cover against the ravens, and they did. The Browns are playing at home against the old Browns. Granted the Ravens are NOTHING like the old Browns, but McNair's old, Ray Lewis is hurt, and Jamal Lewis is pissed that Baltimore let him go. They might not win, but they'll cover. Pick: BROWNS

- Don't let last week fool you. Shaun Alexander's playing hurt, and Frank Gore's gonna hit at least 110 against the seahawks. Pick: NINERS

Monday
NE (-7) @ CIN
- the NFL superteam finally gets a monday night game. after a getting a sunday night game week 1, go figure. Moss vs. Ocho Cinco. The Pats have covered every single game theyve played, including last week's 17.5 debacle agains the Bills. Super Offense vs. a team that let the browns score 56? Pick: PATS.

Also, I'm in a pool called a Survivor Pool, where all you have to do is pick one team to win straight up every week, but you can't pick the same team twice. All you have to is survive. So ery week now, I'm gonna list my picks for the week, my survivor pick, and my lock pick. and just to let you know, my surivior picks for past weeks:
Week 1: DET (over OAK)
Week 2: DEN (over OAK)
Week 3: CAR (over ATL)

for week 4:
Survivor: SD (over KC)

Lock: New England.

Good Luck.
